Users spending more time on TikTok than Facebook

Users are spending more time on TikTok than on Facebook for the first time, according to data from a recent app consumption survey. In terms of hours spent per user per month, App Annie estimates that time spent on TikTok is up by 325% year-over-year, which means it’s now beating Facebook.

Rising Trend

For almost every app in every market, the average time spent is up, but few are up by as much as TikTok. By time spent, TikTok ranks in the top 5, and the pace at which it developed over the past year outweighs almost any other app evaluated in the report.

The 1 billion MAU club in social media is an elite community of apps composed of Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube, and WeChat of China. It’s no small deal that TikTok is supposed to find itself a spot among these applications before the year is over.


When it comes to sales, TikTok is in a league of its own and rates as the #2 non-gaming app in terms of user spending. TikTok monetizes through advertisements and helps consumers buy digital products, while several social media applications monetize through ads. Indeed, one of the top trends in social media in 2021 is the explosive rise of TikTok.
